Apple has unveiled the Apple Watch Series 11, featuring revolutionary hypertension monitoring that works passively in the background using optical heart rate sensors to detect signs of chronic high blood pressure over 30-day periods. The watch also introduces Apple’s first native Sleep Score, providing users with a 0-100 rating based on over 5 million nights of sleep data analysis. Hardware improvements include a more durable, scratch-resistant display on aluminum models and extended 24-hour battery life, up from the previous 18-hour rating. The hypertension feature, pending FDA approval, will also be available on older models including Series 9 and Ultra 2 through the watchOS 26 update. Priced starting at $399, the Series 11 is available for pre-order now with store availability beginning September 19.

From a WearableWhiz perspective, the Series 11 represents a significant leap forward in preventive health monitoring, particularly with its passive hypertension detection – a feature that could genuinely save lives by identifying a condition that often goes unnoticed until serious complications arise. The addition of a native Sleep Score finally brings Apple in line with competitors like Fitbit and Garmin, though it’s worth noting this took years longer than expected. Also worth noticing that the sleep score seems to be a bit too simplistic. Sleep stages (deep, REM, light) are not accounted for in the calculation. While the hardware updates are modest, the improved battery life addresses one of the most common user complaints, making overnight sleep tracking more practical. However, the hypertension feature’s pending FDA approval means early adopters may have to wait to access this headline feature, and users should remember that smartwatch health monitoring supplements, but doesn’t replace, regular medical checkups.
I’ve linked Series 10 below because it offers nearly the same health and fitness features for less, and it’s a smart fallback if Series 11 isn’t in stock when you shop.
The Apple Watch Series 10 features a brighter and larger OLED display in a thinner design, the new S10 chip for faster performance, comprehensive health tracking (ECG, blood oxygen, heart-rate), advanced fitness metrics, safety features like crash detection, and seamless iPhone integration. Battery life is around 18–36 hours depending on use.
- Best for iPhone users who want the ultimate smartwatch experience
- Perfect integration with the Apple ecosystem and apps
- Not ideal for Android users or those who want multi-day battery life
